José Leonardo Ortíz District

José Leonardo Ortíz is a district in Chiclayo province in northern Peru, characterized by flat terrain and low elevation. The area encompasses several neighborhoods and serves primarily as a trade hub for agricultural goods and manufacturing.

The district was established in 1961 and grew from the development of the Barrio de las Latas neighborhood. Its foundation was tied to the earlier expropriation of Quinta Barsallo in 1943, which paved the way for residential expansion.

The district celebrates religious festivals throughout the year, especially in honor of Saint Rose of Lima and the Lord of Miracles. These traditions shape community life and bring residents together regularly.

The Moshoqueque Commercial Complex is the district's main marketplace and the best place to find agricultural products, livestock, and repair services. Visiting in early morning hours offers the most active market experience.

The area stands out for its high population concentration, with thousands of residents packed into a compact space. This density makes it one of the most densely populated places in the surrounding region.
