Brickell, Financial district in Miami, United States
Brickell is a business district south of downtown Miami in the United States. Between the glass and steel skyscrapers run several wide avenues lined with offices, residential towers and shops.
The Brickell family built estates here from the mid-19th century, attracting wealthy families. The first large bank towers appeared in the 1970s, turning the area into a financial center.
The name comes from William and Mary Brickell, who settled here in the 19th century. Today the towers house residents from Latin America, Europe and other parts of the world, giving the area an international character.
The Metromover runs free through the area and stops at several stations along the main streets. Trains operate daily from early morning until after midnight and connect with other lines for trips to other parts of the city.
Beneath the elevated railway a park is being created with native plants and paths for walking or cycling. The section in this area connects green spaces with seating areas and small squares for outdoor activities.
