The Southern South Saqqara pyramid is a royal burial structure located in southern Egypt with an extensive underground layout. It measures approximately 79 meters on each side and contains multiple chambers connected by a network of internal passages.
This burial structure dates to the 13th Dynasty and was begun during the late 12th Dynasty period. Its construction represents a time when rulers were still investing in large underground complexes for the afterlife.
The pyramid reflects burial practices of its era, with multiple underground rooms arranged to guide the pharaoh's journey to the afterlife.
Access is through the east side via a descending staircase leading into the underground area. Allow time to explore the passages carefully, as the layout can be confusing to navigate.
Two black granite cap-stones discovered at the site suggest materials were transported before the upper structure was completed. This indicates the project likely remained unfinished.
