Space Spiral, Observation tower at Cedar Point, Sandusky, Ohio, US.
Space Spiral was an observation tower at Cedar Point amusement park featuring a double-decker rotating cabin that climbed to about 330 feet (100 meters). The cabin turned slowly during both ascent and descent, allowing visitors to see across Lake Erie and the surrounding park landscape from two different levels.
The tower was built in 1965 by Willy Bühler Space Towers and operated successfully for several decades. It was demolished in 2012 to make room for a new roller coaster attraction at the park.
The tower drew visitors seeking elevated views of the amusement park and surrounding water, becoming a recognizable landmark for guests exploring Cedar Point. Its rotating cabin at height made it a memorable photo spot and gathering point within the park layout.
Access to the cabin was straightforward from the main park area, and the full ride took several minutes from bottom to top and back. Visitors on both levels could enjoy views, with clear days offering the best sight lines across the water and surroundings.
The structure fell in exactly 17 seconds during its controlled demolition, a remarkably swift collapse. This quick dismantling cleared space for the GateKeeper roller coaster that followed.
