Maverick, Steel roller coaster in Cedar Point, Sandusky, US
Maverick is a steel roller coaster at Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky. It runs over several hills and through short tunnels, with the trains navigating curves and drops in rapid succession.
The ride opened in May 2007 and came from a collaboration between the park and a German engineering office. During the planning phase, part of the track was changed to reduce stress on passengers.
The name refers to cattle ranchers of the American West, and the decorations recall wooden buildings from that era. At several points you can see references to frontier history that tie the ride experience to a narrative.
Visitors should note that loose items must be left in lockers, as the ride includes several sharp turns and accelerations. The queue runs under cover and shows images and props related to the theme, making the wait a bit more comfortable.
The track contains two launch zones that each use magnetic motors to bring the trains up to speed within seconds. This double approach creates an unexpected burst of energy in the middle of the ride, not just at the start.
