Cedar Point, Amusement park in Sandusky, United States
Cedar Point occupies a narrow peninsula stretching into Lake Erie, housing 17 roller coasters alongside numerous water rides and carousels across its sprawling grounds. The attractions spread across several themed areas connected by pathways along the shoreline and through central plazas.
The park opened in 1870 as a public bathing beach with a small bathhouse, transforming into a full entertainment site by the late 1800s. The first roller coasters appeared in the 1890s, shifting the former beach resort into a center for mechanical thrill rides.
Families spend entire days together riding attractions and moving between different sections of the park. Many visitors return across generations, creating their own rituals and favorite routes through the grounds.
The park opens from early May through Labor Day, with extended weekend hours during September and October for seasonal Halloween events. Summer weekends tend to draw the largest crowds, so arriving early helps avoid the longest waits at popular rides.
The park is the only place worldwide with five roller coasters that each exceed 200 feet (60 meters) in height, including Millennium Force and Steel Vengeance. It also maintains one of the oldest continuously operating wooden coasters, which has carried riders since 1964 without interruption.
