Raptor, Steel roller coaster at Cedar Point, Sandusky, US
Raptor is a steel roller coaster at Cedar Point, Sandusky, in the state of Ohio. The track extends for 1,155 meters (3,790 feet) and contains six inversions, including vertical loops, a zero-gravity roll, and a cobra roll.
The coaster opened on May 7, 1994, and was at that time the tallest, fastest, and longest of its type. It remained a model for later constructions in other parks for several years.
Passengers hang beneath the track while the structure passes over park pathways. This design allows movements that recall the flight technique of large birds of prey, remaining noticeable throughout the entire ride.
The ride lasts about two minutes and reaches speeds up to 92 kilometers per hour (57 miles per hour). Passengers must be at least 137 centimeters (54 inches) tall to board.
The track runs in part directly over busy pathways, allowing visitors to see trains pass at close range. This effect increases the perceived speed for both groups and makes the experience noticeable from ground level as well.
