WildCat, Steel roller coaster at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio.
The Wildcat was a steel roller coaster at Cedar Point featuring a figure-8 pattern with numerous tight turns and small hills throughout its course. Its compact design created powerful lateral forces that defined the riding experience.
Designed by Werner Stengel and built by Anton Schwarzkopf, the ride operated from 1979 to 2012. Its closure made way for the park's expansion project called Celebration Plaza.
The name connected the park to its earlier history, as Cedar Point had previously used the same designation for another attraction. This practice reflected how the park honored its past through its rides.
Riders needed to be at least 48 inches (122 cm) in height and show they could climb vertical ladders for emergency evacuation. These requirements ensured that everyone on the ride could exit safely if needed.
The ride featured a distinctive braking system where passengers had to extend their arms and brace themselves for a sudden stop. This unusual stopping method was experienced by millions of riders throughout its decades of operation.
