Rougarou, Steel floorless roller coaster at Cedar Point, Ohio
Rougarou is a steel floorless roller coaster at Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky on the shore of Lake Erie. The track runs through six inversions and reaches a maximum height of about 137 feet (42 meters).
The ride opened in 1996 under the name Mantis as a stand-up roller coaster with special seats for standing passengers. In 2015 it received a new name and was converted with suspended seats without a floor.
The name derives from French folklore, referring to a mythological creature that inhabits the swamps of Louisiana and transforms into a wolf.
The trains have eight cars with four passengers seated side by side in each row, with legs hanging freely during the ride. Children need to meet a minimum height requirement of about 54 inches (137 centimeters) to board.
The track runs through an inclined loop where the rail passes overhead at an angle rather than perfectly vertical. This particular construction appeared for the first time worldwide on this ride.
