Millennium Force, Steel roller coaster in Cedar Point, Sandusky, Ohio, US
Millennium Force is a steel roller coaster at Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio, that uses a cable lift to reach a height of 310 feet (94 meters). The layout includes multiple banked turns and drops along a track spanning more than 6500 feet (nearly 2000 meters).
The ride opened in May 2000 as the first roller coaster in the world to exceed both 300 feet in height and 90 miles per hour (145 kilometers per hour). This debut marked a turning point in coaster engineering and influenced many later projects around the globe.
The name refers to the turn of the millennium and the engineering achievement it represented at that time. Visitors today see it as a landmark in modern coaster design and often take photos near the entrance tower.
Boarding takes place through a separate queue area with multiple rows for each of the three trains. Guests should store loose items in lockers near the entrance before riding, as the forces during the ride can dislodge them easily.
During the initial descent, riders glimpse Lake Erie from a height normally reserved for aircraft. The two tunnels along the course pass directly beneath the paths of other coasters and create brief moments of complete darkness.
