North Region, Administrative region in Brazil
The North Region spans 3.8 million square kilometers across seven states, covering 45 percent of Brazil's total territory from the Amazon Basin.
Portuguese colonizers established settlements in the region during the 17th century, starting with a military fort at the mouth of the Amazon River.
The region incorporates numerous indigenous communities speaking Tupi, Carib, Arawak, Pano, and Tucano language families across the Amazon rainforest territory.
The Manaus Free Trade Zone contains 500 manufacturing facilities producing electronics, vehicles, and consumer goods for the Brazilian market.
The North Region contains the Pico da Neblina, Brazil's highest point at 3,014 meters, located in Amazonas state near the Venezuelan border.
