Lassen National Forest

Lassen National Forest spreads across Northern California with dense evergreen woodlands, open alpine areas, mountain lakes, and volcanic rock formations throughout. The terrain shifts noticeably depending on elevation, creating different plant communities and landscapes at each level.

The forest was officially established in 1905 and named after Peter Lassen, a 19th-century pioneer. He guided groups of emigrants through this region during the California Gold Rush of the 1850s.

The Maidu people lived here for generations and shaped their lives around the forest's resources. Walking through the area, you can sense how deeply connected indigenous communities were to this landscape.

The forest has marked trails, camping areas, and recreation facilities for visitors of different skill levels. Access varies by season, as higher elevations become snowbound during winter months.

Lake Almanor within the forest offers excellent fishing and water activities surrounded by forest views. The combination of clear water and wooded shores creates a relaxing spot for boaters and swimmers.
