Dang district

This administrative district in southeastern Gujarat is characterized by dense forests and hills that rise to about 600 meters in elevation. The landscape is dominated by thick woodland and hilly terrain throughout.

Five local kings established a treaty with the British government in 1842 to secure their hereditary titles. This agreement resulted in regular payments to the royal families that continue to the present day.

The forests here are home to venomous snakes whose venom is used to create antivenom treatments. These snakes are collected and sent to research facilities where they help develop life-saving medications.
