DuPont Plaza Hotel, hotel in Miami, Florida, 1957–2004
DuPont Plaza Hotel was a large building in downtown Miami that opened in 1957 and stood along the river. The structure featured a classic facade with numerous rooms and was known for its central location, offering guests convenient access throughout the city.
The hotel opened in 1957 as the first large hotel in downtown after a tourism slowdown in the 1920s. After facing financial difficulties in the early 2000s, it was demolished in 2004 and replaced by the EPIC Hotel & Residences.
The hotel's name referenced the prominent DuPont business family. For decades, it served as a gathering place where business travelers, locals, and visitors converged in downtown Miami's central location.
The hotel no longer exists, but the site is now occupied by modern buildings easily accessible from the Miami River area. Visitors can explore the area and enjoy river views from the new structures that replaced the original hotel.
The hotel stood on the site of the former Royal Palm Hotel, which had a longer history in Miami's development. This location choice reflected an effort to use an established, busy area that was already known to travelers.
