Samawah, Trade center in southern Iraq

Al-Samawah extends along both sides of the Euphrates River, connected by four central bridges that facilitate movement between the eastern and western districts.

The Arab tribe of Banu Quda'a established this settlement in the third century, developing it into a provincial capital of the Al Muthanna region.

The Suq Al Masgoof market preserves traditional Iraqi commerce methods through its network of covered walkways dating from the Ottoman period.

The western section contains the main commercial district and old town, while the eastern area houses modern residential complexes and educational institutions.

The ruins of Uruk, located near Al-Samawah, contain evidence of the first written script from 3300 BC, marking the beginning of recorded human history.
