Anhui, Province in eastern China.
Anhui is a province in eastern China located between the Yangtze and Huai rivers, shaped by mountains in the south and fertile plains in the north. The landscape shifts between forested heights and wide farmland crossed by waterways.
The region was created as a province during the Qing dynasty in 1667 by combining territories along both river systems. Trade and crafts developed through merchants from Huizhou who operated across China.
Huizhou architecture appears in villages with white walls and dark roof tiles standing among rice paddies. Calligraphy and tea culture shape the daily life of many people living in these places.
Hefei in the center offers connections in all directions and serves as a starting point for travel within the province. The southern mountain regions require more travel time and preparation than the flat northern areas.
The province produces much of Chinese paper output, with traditional methods still applied in some workshops. Many place names derive from rivers and natural features that appear in the topography.
