Valencia, Master-planned development in Valencia, California, US
Valencia is a master-planned community west of Santa Clarita that occupies a large expanse between the San Fernando Valley and the Sierra Pelona foothills. The development combines residential neighborhoods, commercial districts, and nature areas linked by an extensive system of trails and parks.
The land was purchased in 1875 by Henry Mayo Newhall as a large private estate and later developed in the 1970s as a modern residential project. This transformation created an entirely new community built on a foundation of existing private ownership.
The development integrates Native American Tataviam heritage sites from 450 AD while creating new community spaces through parks, trails, and educational facilities.
The area is accessible from Interstate 5 via Magic Mountain Parkway and features an extensive network of trails throughout. The mix of developed areas and protected open space means visitors can easily move between urban activity and green spaces.
Many buildings throughout the project are equipped with technologies designed to reduce energy use and emissions. This makes it an interesting example of large-scale environmentally conscious construction.
