Coast Starlight, Night train service between Los Angeles and Seattle, United States
Coast Starlight is a night train service running between Los Angeles and Seattle along the Pacific coast through California, Oregon, and Washington. The route passes through coastal areas, wine country, mountain ranges, and urban centers.
The train was introduced in 1971 and uses tracks previously operated by Southern Pacific Railroad. The service has connected West Coast cities for more than five decades.
The dining car service includes regional specialties from the Pacific Northwest and California, reflecting local culinary traditions from both states.
The journey takes around 35 hours and includes both coach seating and private sleeping rooms with meals. Reservations are recommended, especially during summer months and weekends.
The observation car offers floor-to-ceiling glass windows with views of Mount Shasta, the Cascade Range, and long stretches of Pacific coastline. On clear days, snow-capped peaks and ocean scenery are visible at the same time.
