Lima province, Administrative province in central coastal Peru

Lima province stretches along the central Pacific coast of Peru and includes the capital city along with surrounding municipalities. It covers both densely populated urban zones and drier outlying areas that rise toward the foothills of the Andes.

The area became a colonial base in the 16th century and remained the political core of the country into the 21st century. After independence, the province continued its development as the central administrative seat.

Each district within Lima Province maintains its distinct identity through local festivals, traditional markets, and architectural styles from different historical periods.

Visitors moving within the province will find numerous bus routes and expressways that connect different districts. The international airport sits close to the center and eases arrivals from other countries.

The province holds an unusual administrative structure, as it does not belong to any of the country's regions and is coordinated directly by the national government. This arrangement sets it apart from all other Peruvian provinces.
